Sylvia Armas-Abad
Sylvia joined the Augustin Egelsee team in January 2021. She brings more than 20 years of work experience in the field of education. Sylvia has dedicated her work to advocating for the educational needs of students, particularly in underserved and marginalized communities. She is proud of having dedicated much of her efforts to educating and empowering parents to become their child’s number one advocate; especially mothers who often feel they have no voice in the educational journey of their children. Utilizing her bilingual skills, she facilitated the access to and distribution of various school resources available to Spanish-speaking families.
Having been an in-home caregiver for more than two years, Sylvia also understands the challenges that many of our clients’ families face, in meeting the needs of a loved one, with physical limitations. She understands the crucial and daunting task of caring for someone whose health and safety relies heavily on another individual, while also meeting his or her mental health and emotional needs.
Sylvia has worked with various school boards, superintendents, principals, teachers and other school staff to help create and foster school environments that are engaging, nurturing, competent, and most importantly, meeting the needs of the families they serve.
