Sylvia Armas-Abad

Sylvia joined the Augustin Egelsee team in January 2021. She brings more than 25 years of work experience in the field of education. Sylvia has dedicated her work to advocating for the educational needs of students, particularly in underserved and marginalized communities. She is proud of having dedicated much of her efforts to educating and empowering parents to become their child’s number one advocate; especially mothers who often feel they have no voice in the educational journey of their children. Utilizing her bilingual skills, she facilitated the access to and distribution of various school resources available to Spanish-speaking families.
As an in-home caregiver for more than two years, Sylvia came to understand and experience the challenges that many of our clients’ families face, in meeting the needs of a loved one with disabilities, as well as facing the daunting task of caring for someone whose health and safety relies heavily on their caregiver.
Sylvia has worked with various school boards, superintendents, principals, teachers, school staff and other stakeholders to help create and foster school environments that are engaging, nurturing, competent, and most importantly, meeting the needs of the families they serve.
Sylvia earned a bachelor’s degree from UCLA in World Arts and Cultures with a minor in Chicano Studies.
